I help run a computer service and repair company in West Des Moines and a frequent concern I hear is: “I can’t change my internet service provider (ISP), I have my email address with them and if I change providers, I won’t be able to keep/use my same email address”. That may indeed be true. You should know that , as much as your ISP might tell you must use the email address they provide you, you don’t. I believe they recognize the difficulty necessary to change and hope for no less when you want to replace them.
There are a couple of quick and simple steps you can take to help reduce future frustration and address the challenge noted above. The simplest approach is, setup an account with a stable, large, free email provider. The four most popular are: AOL, GMAIL, HOTMAIL and YAHOO. Then send an email from your new address to your friends, family and business contacts, tell them that from this day forward, this is your new email address. After this day and at your leisure, you can continue to check your previous address and remind important contacts that soon you won’t be checking this address. The sooner you make this change, the less likely you’ll have to do it in a hurry later.
